Summary/Abstract: The topic of this paper is dystopia, a genre hitherto secondary in Croatian prose, which gained considerable popularity in the last few years. The paper presents an overview of theoretical consideration about the conception of utopia and dystopia. The chosen novels are considered in the context of classic worldwide dystopian prose and analysed through category of exclusion, control and punishment, interpreted in accordance with philosophy of Michel Foucault and Giorgio Agamben, with the aim to show mechanisms of power in dystopian society. This provides answers to the questions about which problems are noticeable in the modern society and what negative consequences portraiture writers. Further, the paper also answers why dystopia has become a popular genre among authors who have been, until now, mostly inclined to criticize reality through a mimetic model.
