Summary/Abstract: The focus of this paper is on the debut novel of a contemporary Polish writer Dorota Masłowska and its Slovak translation by Thomas Horvath. An attempt is made to perform a linguistic analysis of the source text and the Slovak translation. The goal is to point out selected linguistic devices Dorota Masłowska employs at all levels as well as the strategies, processes and methods of the translator. The conclusions are drawn on the basis of the analysis and comparison of both texts with selected examples included. The areas outlined above are to be be further explored in the dissertation on the topic.
