Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses Tatarkiewiczʼs, a Polish humanist, contribution to aesthetics. His writings can be described as interdisciplinary, and his influence on many branches of humanites is widely recognised. The first part of this paper contains biographical information on his professional life, publications and papers. Tatarkiewiczʼs approach to aesthetics was influenced by his knowledge of philosophy and art history e second part of this paper focuses on scholarly works and important publications in aesthetics (History of Aesthetics, Droga przez estetykę and A History of Six Ideas). His publications and papers present a systematic interpretation of history and definitions of terms and historical aesthetic concepts. The goal of this paper is to define methods of interpretation in Tatarkiewiczʼs works.
