Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study is to examine construct validity of The Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale IV based on the Circumplex Model. The ability of the FACES IV to discriminate between clinical (families with adolescents diagnosed according to MKCH 10) and nonclinical families (without adolescents’ diagnosis) was tested. Research sample consists of 84 respondents – 28 adolescents (Mage=13.31, SD=1.46) with diagnosis and 56 adolescents (Mage=13.86, SD=.70) from the intact population. The FACES IV and FCS were utilized. Results suggested that adolescents from clinical families in comparison to nonclinical families scored higher in dimensions: enmeshed and disengaged cohesion and chaotic adaptability, and lower in overall family functioning. Families did not differ in family communication. Results demonstrated sufficient discriminant validity of the Slovak version of the FACES IV (except of the rigid scale) and supported the curvilinear hypothesis.
