- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the research was to find out the lay population beliefs about the causes of depression and whether it has an impact on the assessment of the seriousness of the causes of depression professional interests, experience with a person with mental disorder, age and sex. The sample consists of 131 respondents (98 women and 33 men). Beliefs about the causes of depression we investigated 77-item questionnaire evaluation single cause of depression in severity by Likert scale. Results were statistically processed using One-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test. For the major causes of depression respondents considered serious life events related to loss and trauma and the least serious grounds related to lifestyle. To assess the severity of the individual causes of depression had the largest effect of experience with a man with a mental disorder.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of this paper is to inquire psychometric properties of Cloninger’s Temperament and Character inventory for adolescents (TCI-A). The Sample is the group of 211 adolescents from which 104 people participated in the pilot study and 107 participated in the main study. The internal consistency was satisfactory, the Cronbach’s alpha varied from 0,79 to 0,91. However, the consistency of some subscales (NS4, RD4) emerged as problematic. The test-retest reliability as a time consistency indicator was also found to be satisfactory. We have extracted only six factors with eigenvalue ≥1 using the Principal Component Analysis which is in contrast to the assumed theoretical model. But the factor solution, computed separately for temperament and character reflected approximately the Cloninger's model. In general, the reliability of TCI-A was confirmed. Further investigations concerning the TCI-A’s validity need to be made.

- Summary/Abstract:The Brno Quality of Life Longitudinal Study of Paediatric Oncology Patients (QOLOP, N = 225) is a prospective longitudinal study of the quality of life of children and adolescents after treatment of pediatric cancer, which was started in 2006. This paper summarizes the main results of the second stage of this study. Three studies that dealt with longitudinal trends in quality of life, changes in the level of depressive symptoms and predictors of posttraumatic stress and posttraumatic growth, showed that more important than objective medical data (type of diagnosis, severity of late effects) are personality characteristics (negative emotionality) and parenting factors, i.e. factors that are not primarily related to the disease and can be suitably influenced.

- Keywords:humor styles; depression; anxiety; positive emotions; negative emotions;
- Summary/Abstract:Aim of this paper is to present the results of a study about humor styles and their relationship to experience of emotions. The sample included 131 undergraduate students of the Faculty of Psychology at PanEuropean University. We used the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ), which helps to differentiate between adaptive and maladaptive styles of humor. Selected indicators of emotional well-being were determined by the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS 42) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). Results of linear regression showed that self-enhancing style of humor is a predictor of the depression, anxiety, positive and negative emotions. On the basis of the level of self-defeating style and aggressive style of humor it is possible to predict the level of depression. Affiliative style of humor predicted level of positive emotions. The research results indicate that self-enhancing style of humor is most closely connected with experience of emotions and emotional well-being.

- Keywords:perceived safety; masculinity; feminity,; gender; gender roles;
- Summary/Abstract:Perceived safety is a multidimensional construct that encompasses emotional, cognitive and behavioural dimension. Part of the perceived safety is a cognitive evaluation of safety, fear of crime and preventive behaviour. The aim of this study is to make a detailed analysis of the perceived safety with respect to gender itself and gender roles of respondents (masculinity, femininity, androgyny, undifferentiated). Until now the theme of gender roles in the research of perceived safety has appeared more in theoretical spheres. The first research sample consisted of 316 respondents from the population of the Slovak Republic (63,6% women and 36,4% men). The average age of respondents in the sample is M = 35.38 (SD = 15,84) years (15-83 years). The second research sample consisted of 1847 respondents (59,5% women and 40,5% men) from the Slovak Republic's population aged from 15 to 91 years (M = 49,28, SD = 16,53). In order to determine the distribution of respondents in terms of gender roles a questionnaire PAQ - Personal Attributes Questionnaire (Spence, Helmereich, &Stapp, 1974) was used. We found that women showed a lower level of perceived safety in all its dimensions. The results indicate a significant impact of masculinity and feminity on the level of individual’s perceived safety.

- Summary/Abstract:The cultural dimensions are the one of the most cited theories in cross-cultural research. Cross-cultural psychology – a discipline defined by comparison of cultures – uses cultural dimensions as a reference tool for comparison of cultures and their psychological differences and similarities. The concept of individualism-collectivism has a prominent place among cultural dimensions; it is probably the most frequently elaborated concept in both theoretical and empirical cross-cultural psychology. Despite the fact, the concept of individualism and collectivism is shrouded by many myths and inaccuracies. The limits of its usability in empirical research are both of a methodological nature and in its theoretical anchorage. We perceive its better theoretical anchoring and the development and validation of measurement tools of individualism and collectivism as one of the crucial requirements of the development of cross-cultural research in the Central-European region.

- Keywords:Emerging Adulthood; Developmental Tasks; Adaptive Self-Regulation;
- Summary/Abstract:Emerging adulthood is a transitive developmental period, in which young people at the age of 18-25 are only gradually dealing with life tasks typical for adulthood. Goals, once characteristic for adolescence, are in modern societies moved to the higher age (Arnett, 2006). Tasks of the adult age are updated increasingly, and their importance grows with age, therefore one of the aims of this research was to examine how important are these tasks for young people, which specific tasks they prefer and to find out if there are any gender differences. The process of goal achievement is explained by the concept of self-regulation (Carver & Scheier, 2011) as the ability not only to choose and achieve the goals, but also modify the behavior in such way, that it will lead to their achievement (Lovaš, 2011). Transitive periods, such as emerging adulthood, are connected with the need to review and adjust one’s life goals. The ability for goal disengagement and reengagement of unattainable goals is a manifestation of adaptive self-regulation (Wrosch et al., 2003a, b). Research sample (N=102, 51 females, 51 males) filled in three research methods: newly constructed questionnaire The Importance of Developmental Tasks, Short Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SSRQ, Carey, Neal & Collins, 2004) and Goal Adjustment Scale (GAS, Wrosch et al., 2003b). Results in the context of benefits and limitations are discussed in the conclusion

- Keywords:poverty; attitudes to poverty; perception of life situation; perception of society;
- Summary/Abstract:Actual analyses of development of poverty in the world (e.g. N ASA, O ECD, O FFAM, Red Cross) show, that in consequence of oversized exploit of sources and their disproportioned distribution the scissors are more and more opened between richer and poorer parts of population. Representation of middle class, from the period of industrial revolution the basic pillar of society, significantly weakened. The profile of poverty is influenced by several factors, in most developed countries mainly by economic activity, structure and size of households, age, and regional disparities. Social psychology can enrich the complex view on this phenomenon also by study of development of attitudes to poverty in different countries: as illustration the data of Special Eurobarometer No. 321 (2009). Or also by analysis of poorer part of society perceptions of themselves, their life situation and environment/society: as illustration the data of the European Social Survey Round 1.-6. (291 686 respondents) are used. As conclusion the reflections about possibilities of fulfillment of humanistic mission of psychology in practical access to the problem of poverty are discussed.

- Summary/Abstract:The thesis is a partial analysis of data from the research „Health-Enhancing and Health-Threatening Behaviour: Determinants, Models, and Implications“. The thesis deals with the impact of selected constructs of optimism − dispositional optimism and defensive pessimism on health behaviour. The effect of these constructs on subjective health was also studied, as well as the health behaviour, subjective health and its relation to social support. Specifically the number of confidants, satisfaction with personal relationships and feelings of loneliness were examined. Finally the effect of age on the above mentioned areas was examined. The study is based on quantitative research. The research sample consists of 171 respondents − seniors aged 60 to 93 years. For the purpose of data collection selected methods from a complex research test battery were used: The Health Related Behaviour Scale, Subjective health inventory, Questionnaire of social support, Defensive Pessimism Questionnaire (DPQ). Dispositional optimism was measured by Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R). The strongest relations were discovered between all previously described variables and the Mental hygiene factor. Dispositional optimism and components of social support like the number of confidants and satisfaction with personal relationships proved to have a positive impact on mental hygiene. Defensive pessimism and perceived loneliness on the other hand affect this area negatively. Similar relations have also been demonstrated in the field of subjective health. Optimistic individuals and those satisfied with their relationships reported fewer health problems specifically on the level of mental health. Defensive pessimists as well as individuals who often feel lonely evinced psychological problems more often.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the contribution is analysis and comparison of the attachment in adolescent girls suffering with eating disorders (PPP) and in the non-clinical sample. The research sample consisted of 25 adolescent girls diagnosed with eating disorders and 80 adolescent girls from non- clinical group. Using SCOFF questionnaire (to detect anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa) we divided non- clinical group into two parts- 40 adolescent girls with susceptibility to eating disorders and 40 adolescent girls without any susceptibility. To measure attachment we used s-E.M.B.U. questionnaire, which measures remembered parental behaviour in three subscales – rejection, emotional warmth and over control. Using one- factor analysis we found out, that between adolescents with PPP, identified susceptibility to PPP and without PPP are statistically significant differences in all dimensions of remembered parental behaviour mother and father except rejection of mother.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of research is presentation of different view on self-licensing, the process when past moral behavior provides the license to behave against some standards or norms without worrying about one´s moral self-image. In goal attainment context we brought a new view of prospective self-licensing, where trying to attain goal works as license to do something immoral, but the goal attainment is highlited as a good reason to do so. In terms of clarification the basis of examined term we have used machiavellian approach and we also examine the relationship of self-licensing in goal pursuit with conscientiousness. The result findings are discussed in paper.

- Summary/Abstract:Conducting ourselves accordingly in varying social situations demands sophisticated socio-cognitive capacities. Developing our understanding of such faculties demands tools that allow us to delineate them into their constituent social and emotional components. This is true particularly of empathy, believed to comprise a cognitive and affective component. The Multifaceted Empathy Test (MET) is used increasingly to investigate empathic awareness and expression. It is a picture-based measure designed to measure the dissociable cognitive and affective components of empathy independently. Currently, however, there exists no formal validation of the MET in the Czech Republic. To address this gap, this presentation describes the process behind stimulus selection, item development, and validation according to the subjective evaluations of Czech and Slovak sample. We believe that the resulting stimulus set will prove useful for future socio-cognitive and -emotion research.

- Summary/Abstract:It has long been assumed, that children with Down syndrome are at a reduced risk of psychopathology. However the clinical and research experience suggests, that incidence of autism symptomatology may be elevated in Down syndrome. Since both disorders share similar symptoms, differential diagnostics can be very difficult. In present paper, two case studies of boys with Down syndrome are presented. Both children were diagnosed using Autism Diagnostics Observation Schedule-2 and Autism Diagnostic Interview-revised. In the conclusion, overlapping of autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome symptomatology is discussed.

The ability of the FACES IV to discriminate between clinical (families with adolescents diagnosed according to MKCH 10) and nonclinical families (without adolescents’ diagnosis) was tested. Research sample consists of 84 respondents – 28 adolescents (Mage=13.31, SD=1.46) with diagnosis and 56 adolescents (Mage=13.86, SD=.70) from the intact population. The FACES IV and FCS were utilized. Results suggested that adolescents from clinical families in comparison to nonclinical families scored higher in dimensions: enmeshed and disengaged cohesion and chaotic adaptability, and lower in overall family functioning. Families did not differ in family communication. Results demonstrated sufficient discriminant validity of the Slovak version of the FACES IV (except of the rigid scale) and supported the curvilinear hypothesis.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the study is understanding the content of stereotypes in ethnic groups inside the Czech society. The qualitative study which we present is a supplement to now running research of stereotypes in Czech society. At this point we used a questionnaire that provides participants’ representations about particular social cathegories through generating adjectives as the main traits to their prototypes. The qualitative study stands on the analysis of prototypes. The analyses concludes that both professional and ethnic categories produce data of the two commonly used dimensions: competence and warmth. Nevertheless, the variability of the descriptions shows methodological limitations of gathering data through presenting the two dimensions. Our approach reveals specific dimensions based mainly on acceptability and addaptability of the ethnic group, being responsible towards the society and self regulation/cultivation of its members. Using the descriptions enables us to understand the quantitative data better. It also shows the necessity to explore the actual psychological content of stereotypes and also to discuss the ways of realizing the research in intergroup relations.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper presents the interdisciplinary study of cognitive visualisation. The study compares two different methods of visualisation - a common military topographic map and a transport context map. This comparison was regards to cognitive and perceptual load on the user. A mixed research design was elected for the purpose of the study, this design offers a combination of different research methods. In the first phase the exploratory data analysis was used and in the second phase quantitative methods of data collection and analysis. For the second phase of the research Hypothesis web platform was used, the Hypothesis supports the implementation of both cartographic task and psychological tests. The platform were also be connected with eyetracking EyeTribe by software HypOgama. Synchronizing data files - information about eye movements (in the case of eyetracking system), and on the action and behavior (in the environment proband Hpothesis) – provides in-depth analysis of the strategies of solving problems users in the use of exploratory data analysis. Used mixed research design combines the advantages of both nomothetical and ideographical methods. In the context of research work with a map, we are able not only to statistically verify the realtionship between the defined variables (using visualization, degree of recall and cognitive style) and also deeply committed exploration of cognitive strategies.

- Summary/Abstract:Occurrence of cognitive distortions in the work of a manager is not rare. Ability to avoid these distortions is an important prerequisite for acceptance of the right decisions and strategies of a company development. Significance of cognitive distortions in accepting decisions by a manager is enhanced by the fact that these decisions influence not only the life of this manager, but also of the organization as a whole, i.e. all of manager’s co-workers. The presented report focuses on the possibility to identify and specify the indicators enabling prediction of occurrence of cognitive distortions in managerial work. The proposal and verification of these predictors of cognitive distortion occurrence are based on the concept by Beck, who described formation and effects of dysfunctional schemes and cognitive distortions in human life. It is clear that these distortions or errors affect both the work and the personal life of a person. The report presents the findings and knowledge which enable prediction of the future occurrence of cognitive distortions in the work of managers on the questionnaire basis.

- Summary/Abstract:The study focuses on the Big Five personality traits and locus of control in the relationship with decision-making styles. The research sample consisted of 226 students (65 males, 161 females) from various Slovak universities. Big Five Inventory (John & Srivastava, 1999), Internal-External Scale (Rotter, 1966) and General Decision-Making Styles (Scott & Bruce, 1995) were used to measure the defined characteristics. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis was conducted. The results showed that each personality trait contribute to the prediction of at least one decision-making style: conscientiousness and openness to experience to rational style; openness to experience and agreeableness to intuitive style; neuroticism and agreeableness to dependent style; conscientiousness, neuroticism and agreeableness to avoidant style; conscientiousness, openness to experience and extraversion to spontaneous style. Dependent decision-making style is predicted also by locus of control. These findings are discussed from the perspective of adaptive and non-adaptive decision-making styles.

- Summary/Abstract:One of the big contemporary issues and challenges of social system transformation from institutional to community care is finding the way of supporting and working with primary social environment of child with the disability. A number of studies highlights that one of the long-term neglected groups are siblings of children with a disability (Naylor & Prescott, 2004). This is a significant drawback of the current social care system, because these children express the desire to obtain information and understand the brother´s/sister´s disability (Dyson, 1998), and they often care for the sibling on a daily basis. Moreover the presence of the disease in family system can have a number of negative impacts such as difficulties in adaptation, problem behaviour and decrease in overall quality of life (Sharpe, 2002). One of the intervention possibilities focusing on siblings of children with disabilities are group therapeutic-educational programs successfully proved abroad, however, these are almost non-existent in Czech Republic (e.g. Lobato & Kao, 2005). The aim of this contribution is to present forms of organization, content and outputs of such programs, as published in scholarly journals and applied in foreign practice (especially in Great Britain).

- Summary/Abstract:Introduction: Comparison of self-assessment with evaluation by another person is essential not only for assesment of the validity of personality inventories, but also has a practical meaning in diagnostics. Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI-R) is frequently used in research to measure personality traits, but there have been no studies which investigated the relationship of self-other assessment for this multidimensional inventory. Methods: Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI-R) was completed by 80 participants (Age: M=25, SD=5,3). Participants were also evaluated by their parents (Age: M=50, SD=6,3). Results: We found moderate to very high degree of agreement between an assessment of yourself and an assessment of a close person (parent). The highest agreement was found for the Novelty-Seeking and lowest for Self-Directedness. Overall, higher compliance rates were found for temperament than character traits. We have also found some significant differences in the degree of self-other report on some facets of the main dimensions; for several of them, we also found statistically significant differences in the average scores of the facets. Discussion: The results are discussed in the context of usability TCI-R as a method for evaluating by other person. We also discuss the finding that when assessors (parents) rated below average, especially generally desirable properties such as Self-Directedness and Cooperation. Conclusions: TCI-R can be used as a method of assessment of the other person, with the risk that some personality manifestations are more difficult to assess by external informant, but with an expected benefit even-handed assessment of some (mainly character) features another person, which is needed to evaluate in future.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the study is to compare personality characteristics and coping strategies in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) - Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) in the background of physiological theories of stress, psychoneuroimunology and psychoneuroendocrinology. The main hypotheses were that patients with IBD score higher in neuroticism and conscientiousness, use more negative coping strategies and consequently suffer from more stress. A group of 25 IBD patients was investigated and compared to 25 respondents without the disease. The used questionnaires were NEO-FFI, SVF 78 and Stress Profile. The results of parametric t-tests and non-parametric Mann Whitney U tests confirmed that patients with active disease and in remission as well scored higher in neuroticism and used more negative coping strategies (specifically in Resignation and Self-accusation). At all the patients the neuroticism correlates with using negative coping strategies (ρ=0,692; p<0,001), but not at the group of non-patients. Relapsed patients suffer from stress more than non-patients.

- Summary/Abstract:Presented study introduce the correlation of creativity, personality and cognitive complexity. The structure of cognitive processess has been great topic since the turn of 20th century. The research on cognitive styles have brought many new findings on the interconectedness of personality and cognitive processes such as perception, thinking and decision making, memory etc. Theories of cognitive complexity represent one contribution of this period, which aims on how are the cognitive processess structured, how this structure affects the effectivity of decision making and how it’s affected by different internal or external factors such as sex, age, personality, social context, time pressure etc . In the first part of our research we conducted an analysis of correlation between divergent thinking factors and cognitive complexity measures following the approach of P. Suefeld and P.E. Tetlock. Figural and verbal fluence, flexibility, elaboration and originality were measured by subtests Torrance test of creative behaviour and Guilford Alternative uses test. Cognitive complexity was scored on the Paragraph completion test data following the Integrative/Conceptual complexity scoring manual (BakerBrown et al., 1992). In the second part of study we conducted correlation study of cognitive complexity and Big Five personality traits (measured by Czech version of NEO-FFI by Hřebíčková & Urbánek, 2001). The article gives a summary of main findings of our studies and briefly sketch out the questions and hypotheses for future research on the complexity of thought.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the study is to analyze the link between the acculturative stress, personality traits included in five-factor model and demographic characteristics among Vietnamese living in the Czech Republic. The sample consisted of 488 Vietnamese aged from 15 to 69 years. Acculturative stress was measured by the Czech version of the Riverside Acculturation Stress Inventory (RASI, Benet-Martinez, 2003). RASI identifies five areas that may influence individuals exposed to two cultures and can cause mental stress (1. Language skills, 2. Work Challenges, 3. Intercultural relations, 4. Discrimination and 5. Cultural isolation). Personality traits were measured by Big Five Inventory (BFI-44, John & Benet-Martinez, 1998). Based on results of previous studies, we have proposed that acculturation stress would be related to neuroticism, but also to other traits included in the differ depending on age and gender. Our preliminary results confirm that neuroticism, age and socioeconomic status appeared to be the most powerful predictors of acculturative stress among Vietnamese living in the Czech Republic.

- Summary/Abstract:Work under the influence of alcohol is a serious problem. Alcohol consumption leads to reduced quality of performance, because it negatively affects perception, coordination, communication and cognitive processes. The paper is focused on identifying of attitudes and practices regarding the use of alcohol in the workplace. A asample of 145 employees completed self-reported questionnaire focused on attitudes towards alcohol consumption at work as well as drinking with colleagues after work, on the availability of alcohol in the workplace, the existence of rules governing the use of alcohol in the workplace and drinking at work too. Nearly three fifths (57.2 %) of respondents reported that their organization sometimes provides alcohol to employees. A quarter of respondents (24.2 %) admitted that last year more than once they drank alcohol in the workplace. It is needed a clear policy in organization in relation to alcohol in the workplace and at the same time, not to create conditions for the occurrence of this negative phenomenon.

- Summary/Abstract:An ample body of evidence suggests that various aspects of goal directed behaviour occur outside of conscious awareness (Moskowitz & Gesundheit, 2008), which is closely related to the phenomenon known as social priming (Molden, 2014). It has been proposed that two regulatory dynamics, determined by construal level, may play a crucial role in the attempts to decipher the nature of this phenomenon (Fujita & Trope, 2014). Corroborating this assumption, a pilot experimental study was carried out (N=16 University students). An influence of the mental set manipulation (procedural priming of low/high level construal) in the context of academic goal and related congruent/ or conflicting (socializing) goal activation (via supraliminal priming) on the speed of the reactions to the words related to the attainment of conflicting goal in the lexical decision task was analyzed. As expected, the results pointed out to the activation of conflicting goal in low-level, but not in high-level construal.

The aim of our contribution is to bring closer the concept of emotional schemas within the cognitive approach of American psychologist R.L. Leahy, pupil of A.T. Beck. The introduction offers a brief selective view of the benefits of the existing well known theories and models concerning the relationships of cognition and emotion in the context of emotional processing. Furthermore, we describe Leahy´s model of emotional schemas, his understanding of emotional schemas, emotional coping strategies in the framework of emotional schemas and the process of normalization and pathologization of emotions. Finally, we illustrate the dimensions of emotional schemas and their characteristics, and how they are presented by R. L. Leahy.

- Keywords:group decision making; consultation; intuitive responses; conjunction fallacy; cognitive reflection;
- Summary/Abstract:In line with the conjunction rule, the probability of more events co-occurring is always less than the chance of either one occurring alone. Violation of this principle represents one of the most robust cognitive biases. While among individual choices the presence of conjunction fallacy is particularly frequent, recent findings suggest that in cases of social interaction—consultation of solutions—the proportion of incorrect automatic answers decreases. Social influence on the level of cognitive reflection, an ability to suppress automatic intuitive responses and to engage in analytical thinking, has not been sufficiently studied yet. Therefore, enriching the design of baseline research focused on solutions to the Linda problem "solo" and after consultation, we also analyzed the answers in the Cognitive reflection test, and compared individual and group results. The findings of our experimental study (N = 210) are inconsistent with the assumption of "the more heads, the more rationality". We identified the following predictors of intuitive responses: subjective confidence, balanced discussion and demonstration of the correct solution. Main implications concern ecological validity within research of cognitive errors and practical recommendations for decision-making situations of groups and their members in personal and professional life.

The main purpose is to reveal differences in dimensions of personality using Cloninger’s model of personality between children with behavioural disorder and children without behavioural disorder. In addition, the emotionality and well beeing of children were measured. The research group consists of 40 children without behavioural disorder and 40 children with behavioural disorder. The quantitative methods were used – new inventory TCI-A, PANAS-C and PedsQL. The result was that the significant differences in dimensions in accordance with the Cloninger’s model of personality exist. The children with behavioural disorder score lower in HA – harm avoidance, higher in NS – novelty seeking and ST – selftranscendence. Successively, these results were confronted with the literature and it seems that the dimension NS – novelty seeking could be hopeful predictor of child behavioural disorders.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper deals with the possible application of quantitative psycholinguistic methods within the framework of psychological disciplines, psychodiagnostics in particular. It provides an introduction to the theoretical basis of the given approach, as well as an overview of both the research documentation and selected results of the current QPA-FPT 2015 research. The research focused on the identification of a writer’s personality features as manifested in different text types, which were subsequently analysed in terms of their formal (i.e. non-semantic) structure. The research sample consisted of 65 students of the Faculty of Education, University of South Bohemia (20 men, 45 women; ~ 21,5 years old). Following a specific writing task, the probands produced two text types – a formal text (a motivation letter) and an informal text (a letter from holiday). They also completed a number of diagnostic tests (STAI-X, KSAT, SSI and PSSI). Next, all the texts were analysed by the computer and tagged using 48 different linguistic features, especially morphological ones. The formal characterisation included both the expression of relative and absolute frequency of a given feature (e.g. first person) and a combination of such features (e.g. first person singular pronoun). The outcomes of the analysis were then compared with the tests results and correlations were identified. The research results include a number of key findings, pointing out to the influence of a given text type on its morphological structure, but also to the links between linguistic features and specific personality characteristics of the writer.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of presented research was verification of hypothesized relationship between emotions evoked by anticipation of goal attainment and indicators of goal engagement. Distinguished were anticipatory, and anticipated emotions as two forms of future oriented emotions. Participants (133 university students, aged 18 – 28 y; 66 M, 67 F) were instructed to consider their goal of „success on exams“, and with this goal in mind answered three questions regarding their engagement in this goal (“Is this your personal goal?”, “How important is for you this goal?”, “How probable is its attainment?”). Following this participants answered questions regarding positive (e.g. “I feel joy”) and negative (e.g. “I feel anger”) anticipatory and anticipated emotions (e.g. “I will feel joy”, “I will feel anger”) in the case of success, and in the case of failure. Analysis of data confirmed significant positive relationship between indicators of goal engagement and dominant emotions evoked by anticipation, as well as dominant anticipated emotions (in the case of success were dominant positive emotions, in the case of failure were dominant negative emotions).

- Summary/Abstract:It has been documented that stressful and anxiety-inducing conditions have detrimental effects on cognitive flexibility during problem solving. This effect is typically attributed to either enhanced sympathetic arousal or possible cognitive interference, both representing a common component of stress response and anxiety state. The present study investigates the impact of experimentally-induced emotional states (anxiety state specifically) on the ability to solve ill-defined verbal problems that require cognitive flexibility (remote associates test). As hypothesized, the group in negative-affect condition showed inferior problem solving ability when compared to the group under positive treatment. Additionally, state anxiety was moderately and inversely associated with post-test cognitive flexibility score while this association remained stable after the pre-test scores (both anxiety and cognitive flexibility) were corrected for. Subsequent mediation analysis yielded evidence that the observed impairment of cognitive flexibility is mediated by the level of post-treatment state anxiety. Therefore, anxiety state may be a crucial parameter responsible for cognitive inflexibility during problem solving.

- Summary/Abstract:In reaction to a request from a secondary school we created and tested a draft intervention program for students. The program consisted from motivation lectures, individual 1:1 peer tutoring, and in-class workshops. The effect was measured using the Performance Motivation Questionnaire and the Questionnaire to Identify Value Orientations, Value Attitudes and Performance Motivation. The sample included 26 students aged 15 through 17 divided into experimental and control groups. In addition to some positive results (before/after differences in experimental group in Moral Value Orientation, Economic Value Orientation, and Subjective Experience of Achievements) we see addressing the problem of stimulating interest of secondary school students in their education and further studies as the main benefit of the project. Pupils almost unanimously perceived the attempts of tutors to ask about further studies as premature, and tried to avoid the topic. Stimulating interest of secondary school students in their education and further studies is a challenge that will require additional research effort.

- Summary/Abstract:Both semantic fluency and remote associates test (RAT) are believed to load on cognitive flexibility to some extent. We hypothesized that overall performance on remote associates test (in our study: concept access test – CAT) will be related to switching component of semantic fluency, which is believed to reflect cognitive flexibility, but not to clustering component that represents automatic retrieval of closely related concepts. To further investigate these relationships a between-subject experiment was conducted where we utilized a hybrid stress protocol similar to Trier Social Stress Test with physiological measures of electrodermal activity (EDA) and psychological measures of state anxiety STAI-X1. We didn’t observed significant correlation between switching and CAT. Clustering was weakly related to CAT after controlling for shared variance with EDA. We observed weak negative relationship between overall CAT performance and EDA. Switching component was significantly higher in experimental (stress) group than in controls. Clustering was more effective in control group than i n experimental. R esults s uggest t hat CAT/RAT p erformance might t o some degree depend on relatively automatic search processes with low requirements on cognitive control rather than on willful processes reflected in switching. Distinct types of search strategies in semantic fluency test and RAT paradigms are also discussed with attempts to interpret different modulating effects of acute stress on their performance.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper deals with the topic of alcoholic behavior and its influencing factors. Personal, family and situation-motivational factors we examine in the population of college students and analyze them in the context of the occurrence (or non-occurence) of regular drinking. To obtain the data the questionnaires were used: NEOFFI (Ruisel, & Halama) (neuroticism, extraversion), The questionnaire of education style in the family (Čáp, & Boshek) and original Questionnaire of situation-motivational alcohol behavior factors (Rojková, 2010). The aim is to determine whether neuroticism, extraversion, education style in the family or alcohol behavior in the family and dependence in the family relate to the incidence of regular drinking among college students. Further we investigate the links between extraversion, neuroticizmom and situation-motivational faktors of regular drinking "influence of group" and "escape from problems".

- Summary/Abstract:Generativity as creativity, productivity, and care for other people or transmitting values to future generations is an important developmental task that should be completed during adulthood. Young adulthood is very important for its development since some aspects may reach its peak just at the beginning of adulthood. The aim of the research was to gain insight into generativity in young adulthood in the context of other personality characteristics. Sample consisted of 54 university students (24 women, average age 21.4 years) who completed the online questionnaire: LGS - generative concern, GBC - generative behavior, Gen-Current – generativity structure, Inventory of the Dimensions of Emerging Adulthood, Social SOC Questionnaire, and Self-Concept Clarity Scale. Generativity - Current Questionnaire has been used in the sample of young adults for the first time. It describes social, cultural, technical and environmental generativity. Factor analysis (varimax rotation) did not confirm the existence of these types as individual factors. Correlation analysis revealed a relationship between generativity and experimentation/possibilities, self-focus (LGS and Gen-Current), other-focus (Gen-Current), and social self-regulation (GBC, Gen-Current). For self-concept clarity was confirmed no significant relationship. We have not identified any gender differences in generativity. The strongest predictor of generativity was social self-regulation (generative concern), experimentation/possibilities (generative action) and self-focus (generativity structure).

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the research was find relationships between perceived emotional intelligence, personality traits (Big Five) and career decision making strategies. We tested incremental validity of perceived emotional intelligence to predict career decision making strategies after controlling personality traits. Research sample of 153 of students we administrated Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS), NEO-FFI and Career Decision-Making Profile (CDMP). We found that adaptive career decision making strategies global score was predicted by high Conscientiousness, Extraversion and low Neuroticism, while perceived EI hasn´t incremental validity. On the level of individual career decision making strategies has the strongest predictive power Conscientiousness. Perceived EI has incremental predictive power (after Big Five controlling) in career decision making strategies: comprehensive information gathering (IG), analytic information processing (IP), effort invested (EI), aspiration for an ideal occupation (AI), and using intuition (IN).

- Summary/Abstract:Decision making styles do not mediate the relationship between perceived stress and subjectively assessed effectiveness of decision making. Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire (MDMQ) is one of the most used measures for the assessment of decision making styles. It is based on conflict theory, which states that the level of stress during making decisions affects the use of adaptive or maladaptive decision making styles, subsequently affecting decision making effectiveness. This study aims to test conflict theory by testing the mediation effect of decision making styles in the relationship between perceived stress and subjective decision making effectiveness of decisions (SDME). Data were collected in 2010 among Slovak health care professionals: nurses, paramedics and emergency links operators (N=206, mean age 39.4 years; SD 9.5 years; 22.5% males). Perceived stress was measured by a 10-items version of Perceived Stress Scale, decision making styles by the MDMQ, and SDME by a 100 mm visual analogue scale. Perceived stress was negatively associated with SDME (r=0.32; p<0.001). Only two of the four decision making styles (procrastination and hypervigilance) were significantly associated with both perceived stress and SDME. The mediation effect was not confirmed in any of these two styles. Although the self-reported and cross-sectional nature of this study and a big conceptual overlap among the studied variables are limiting factors, the results of our study question the validity of conflict theory as applied in the MDMQ.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper deals with a highly actual issue of drug behavior and its influencing factors. We introduce the concept of situation-motivational factors (SMF), creation and verification of the original questionnaire that detects these factors. SMF concept was originally created for the two forms of alcoholic behavior. SMF of alcohol experimentation: influence of family influence of (peer) group, curiousness and the desire for novelty, escape from problems; SMF of regular drinking: influence of group, desire for effect, escape from problems. The questionnaire designed to measure the SMF of experimentation with alcohol and of regular drinking among adults was initially applied in alcoholics (N = 152) and non-alcoholics (N = 82) (ensured validity, reliability). In the following years it was applied in the various studies in adolescents, young adults and older adults of nonpathological (independent) population and was modified for binge drinking or experimenting with smoking. In the current paper are presented the results of psychometric verification of The Questionnaire of situationmotivational alcohol-behavior factors - Part 1 "EXPERIMENTATION" in a sample of 539, Part 2 "REGULAR DRINKING" in a sample of 397 respondents. We also mention the results of testing relations between SMF, some personality traits, age of alcohol (smoking) initialization and age at initiation of regular drinking, which can indicate the application value of the introduced concept and methodics.

The concept introduced into English literature Horace Walpole by Persian fairy tales from the 10th century, whose heroes on the road appeared by chance and wit something not sought. To scientific thought in the 19th century this concept by chemist Eduard Solly was introduced. Serendipity is associated with such important discovery, as was Newton´s law of gravitation and the discovery of penicillin by Fleming and so on. At present, the serendipity discussion when considering the role of chance in science. Often overlooked role of wit in combining seemingly neutral facts to bring about valuable conclusions. Therefore, successful scientists through serendipity phneomena can generate activities that will bring important insights. Basically, there is a connection between the targeted learning with an unexpected accident. The serendipity occurs especially among scientists working together in an environment that enables communication, search of alternatives research and discovery of new application. Often there is a significant progress in cognition, which now leads to the development of related technologies.

- Summary/Abstract:Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by triad of symptoms: deficits in social interaction, deficits in communication and restrictive repetitive behaviour. In the diagnostic process it is recommended to use combination of two diagnostic tools- Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule– second edition (ADOS-2; Lord et al., 2012) and Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised (ADI-R; Rutter et al., 2003). The aim of this study is to compare chosen behavioral parameters acquired from both ADOS-2 and ADI-R examinations and to evaluate ability of parents to see certain autistic symptoms in their children. In group of 77 children we examined 9 selected parameters. Results suggest that parents are more sensible to deficits in social interactions and less sensible to occurrence of stereotyped behaviour in their children. It seems that parents are not aware of these signs being part of symptomatology of autism spectrum disorders.

- Summary/Abstract:The article is concerned with the effect of induced ego depletion on participants ability to solve syllogistic reasoning tasks. We used incongruent Stroop task to induce ego depletion in half of participants (n = 34). The control group (n = 33) solved similar task, that was not depleting. The results showed, that participant´s ability to solve syllogisms, that only required intuitive reasoning, was not affected by ego depletion. However, in syllogistic tasks, that required deliberate resoning, depleted participants achieved worse scores than control group, although the difference did not reach statistical significance. The results are compared to our previous findings (Šrol & Konrádová, 2015) and conclusions of other studies in the field. In the last section of the article we discuss the potential applications of ego depletion paradigm in the research of intuitive and deliberate reasoning and decision making.
