Summary/Abstract: These days, rewriting classical literary works is very popular. The slogan could be ‘classics with ease’, that is our great writers should be published in an abridged form so as to please the reader. This is characteristic not only of Hungarian but of world literature as well. In my essay, I write about the adaptations of Mark Twain’s two very popular novels (in Romania, as well) – The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. First, I give the definition of rewriting, illustrating with some historical examples. After the short theoretical introduction, I introduce the different adaptations of the two works. As an illustration, I will show four different texts.
