Summary/Abstract: I analyse culture-specific words because it is very difficult to translate these elements due to the cultural and language differences. In the first part of my essay, I present the concept of realia and I tried to describe the problem of untranslatability. The main goal of my research was to find out which are the best strategies which can be used while translating realia. To carry out my research, I have gathered all the culture-specific words from the famous Hungarian youth novel The Paul Street Boys by Ferenc Molnár and from its English and Romanian translation. The results offered me the required data to draw the conclusions, which were very surprising. In many cases, the translation of realia was carried out by using its TL equivalent, which justifies the theory of globalization. Besides this, the most frequently used strategies were: generalization, cultural substitution and explicitation.
