Summary/Abstract: Regions are gaining greater significance in the globalized world and in the European Union. The most important socio-economic processes do not only take the traditional national but also the regional forms nowadays. The importance of regional policy and language policy is reflected in the language competence of secondary school leavers and university graduates. Their language competence will always represent an important competitive advantage. The inhabitants of different states and regions will be even more engaged in competing for the favour of investors. The success of regions will depend on the abilities of the regional management and the language competence of its representatives.
