Summary/Abstract: One of the sources of financing the terrorist quasi-state in Syria and Iraq, the so-called Islamic State, was illicit trade in pieces of cultural heritage looted from the controlled territories. This paper aims to present forms of organized looting, destruction and illegal trade in works of art acquired by members of the terrorist organization ISIS, with particular emphasis on the legal aspects of the destruction of cultural property and trade in illegally acquired works of art. In addition, an attempt has been made to identify the challenges regarding the effective and multifaceted protection of cultural heritage from terrorist activities.
