Summary/Abstract: The article presents selected works of art which are found in museums and private collections as a result of theft, looting colonial property, illegal trade and war. They are a starting point for the analysis of certain international law regulations concerning restitution and return of cultural heritage assets. The author also discusses the role museums play.
