Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to define the notion of “a work of art”. Apart from formulating its own definition, the author analyses mutual relations between the notions of “a work of art”, “a cultural asset” and “a relic”. In addition, the author explores potential problems relating to the movement of the work of art to the public domain and registering such work as a trademark.
