Summary/Abstract: Innovative activity is one of the basic concepts of modern pedagogy. The subject of research in this article is the use of alternative methods teaching aids in a foreign language teaching, including Russian. In this article, the history of the development of the theory of teaching foreign languages from the point of view of the three main methodological directions and their modifications is considered. The article also analyzes the main approaches to the main innovative methods in the field of teaching foreign languages, and gives concrete examples of the use of non-standard methods and tools for teaching a foreign language.
