Summary/Abstract: In educational research, reaching entire populations for data collection is not possible in most cases. Therefore, sampling is a frequently used method which allows for reaching a portion of the population in a way that that the collected data represents it as accurately as possible. For the best representation of the population in a sample, random sampling is the most accurate technique as it gives all members of a population equal chance to be included in the sample. In formal education contexts, however, researchers typically do not have equal chance to reach all members of a population due to various reasons such as absenteeism or low motivation to participate in a research study.
