Summary/Abstract: The study presents the history and the current situation of the Faroese language, the most important stages in its development and revival. The paper discusses in detail the background to the reform of the Faroese language and the development of its orthography, giving examples that illustrate the grammatical differences between Faroese and other Scandinavian languages. In describing the current state of the language, it can be stated that although there are still shortcomings in the field of specialized languages, Faroese is now used at all levels of the education system.
