Summary/Abstract: Just as in the case of primary and secondary education institutions, an important indicator for higher education institutions is their drop-out rate. Relatively high rates in higher education also point to causes and problems that need to be addressed at the institutional level. The negative impact of early drop-out (e.g. reduced efficiency in the use of resources, loss of institutional revenues, reduced labour market opportunities for students, lack of success) is, of course, felt not only at the level of an educational institution but also at the level of individuals and the national economy. There are many possible reasons behind the drop-out rates. Identifying them provides higher education institutions with an important basis for improving the quality of education, planning and designing teaching-learning processes, creating a learning environment, and ensuring student support. In our study, we use the example of Corvinus University of Budapest to illustrate how, having identified the extent and causes of the problem, improvements have been made to support students.
