Summary/Abstract: Silviu Purcărete’s career as a director began in the 1970s. The first part of his career could not develop to its full potential because of an oppressive political system. After 1989, he had the opportunity to show his work to foreign audiences. The international career has continued since then and has been mostly successful. Thanks to the director’s openness, one of the watchwords of his stage productions in different countries could be interculturality. The main characteristic of Silviu Purcărete’s theatre is variety. To write my paper, I have chosen two of the many options: humour and playfulness.
