Summary/Abstract: The essay is an attempt to measure the concept of freedom and define the role of an intellectual in the face of the conflicts of the 2020s. The paper also recalls the figure of Alexander Herzen and calls for adopting his attitude nowadays. In this way the author tries to ask a question about the role of an intellectual in Central and Eastern Europe.
