Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to discuss selected practices of violence that generate idleness of people with disabilities or the conceptualization of such people as idle, unable to act, dependent, and therefore (according to ableist rhetoric) useless or even unworthy of life. Thus, I will reflect on various language phenomena related to the perception of disability, for the description of which the category of idleness – although rather absent in critical disability studies – may prove adequate.
