Summary/Abstract: The report examines the capabilities of the naval mine weapon and its role in any modern conflict. The use of the mine threat to support the control of the maritime space is the basis for deterring aggression in the maritime domain. Sea mines are a designed capability of the coastal state for deterrence and defence. The potential of sea mines in a major military conflict has been proven historically, raising the need to develop mine threat capabilities. The development of these capabilities supports the imposition of dominance in the littoral zone.
