Summary/Abstract: The report examines the strategic importance of the Black Sea region for NATO and its partners. Emphasis is placed on the stabilizing role of the Alliance in ensuring a reliable, safe and prosperous environment in the Black Sea region. The NATOled policy in the Greater Black Sea region and the preparation of a strategy for the resolution of the problems and conflicts threatening Euro-Atlantic security in the area are justified by means of an analysis of the existing threats and challenges in and around the Black Sea. The report draws the conclusion that the Black Sea region needs the stabilizing influence of NATO and the Alliance must protect its interests in this region.
