Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the importance and role of Pan Tadeusz in the cultural and literary discourse on the Polish nobility, initiated by Mikołaj Rej and Jan Kochanowski. The author bases her analysis on ‘songs’ and ‘culinary culture’, the former symbolizing tradition, identity, history and the defense of the Republic of Poland and the latter embodying prosperous court life: hunting and feasting. The multiple dimensions of feasts highlight the aspects of family and social life and the nature of the discussion on national affairs and defense policy.
