Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a short history of the development of glottodidactics (i.e. foreign language teaching and learning), especially in Poland. A very important moment in its history was the year 1972, when the Institute of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warsaw was established, which gave rise to the development of glottodidactics as an independent scientific discipline. Until today not only the Institute, but the whole Faculty of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warsaw is an important center of glottodidactic research. Therefore, the article not only presents the historical background, but also the most interesting glottodidactic research fields of the scientists from the Faculty of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warsaw now and the perspectives for future.
