Summary/Abstract: The scientific description of translation as a creative act belongs to most important subjects triggering the development of the translatological research. In this paper, we present an overview of the scientific achievements of Paul Kußmaul, a German theoretician and didactician of translation, one of the pioneers of scientific research on creative aspects of the translation process. The main focus of attention lies on the evolution of the views of the researcher, as well as his attempt to develop a scientifically grounded model of translation as a creative act, referring to three aspects of creativity: inventiveness, adequacy and acceptability.
