Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to examine whether the emergence of CAT (computer-assisted translation) programs requires updating the scheme of the classical translation system. The following three questions are analyzed: 1) whether these programs should be introduced into the scheme and take the place alongside the translator, 2) whether the text pre-prepared by these programs should be introduced into the scheme and take the place alongside the original text and the translation text, 3) whether the linguistic assets of these programs – that is, translation memories, glossaries, lists of forbidden translations (black lists), lists of preferred translations, lists of elements "transferred” without change from the original text to the translation text (placeables) – should be introduced into the scheme, and if so, where.
