Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to conduct a comparative analysis of modern autobiographical works by the outstanding scholars Norman Davies’ On Himself (2019) and Franciszek Grucza’s "My Road to Anthropocentric Linguistics" (2017). Walentyna Sobol wants to put them in a broader context of the anthropology of war, which has been imprinted in children’s memory and in the works of, for example, Sławomir Mrożek (2006) or Piotr Wojciechowski (2022). The author of the article examines the factors of the timeless significance of the egodocuments of scholars, which is why she uses the research methodology of the anthropology of memory, especially the traumatic memory of a child. Another goal that the researcher tries to achieve by comparing personal documents is to present an analysis of a politically justified answer to the question concerning the participation of a humanities scholar in counteracting cruelty, humiliation and violence. Here, the tasks for humanists, precisely formulated in the work "My Way to Anthropocentric Linguistics", stand out. The author’s well-thought-out announcements correspond to Ryszard Nycz’s concern about the fate of the humanities and humanists, expressed in his article "New Humanities in Poland: Some Very Subjective Observations, Conjectures, Refutations" (2017). The article justifies the conclusions about the most important, in the author’s opinion, timeless discourses.
