Summary/Abstract: The article illustrates the experience of Józef Czapski’s activity as painter, writer and soldier. This experience was presented in two aspects: part one shows the reconstruction of the artist work method basic on archival notes from his diaries, referring to the paintings – special pressure put on representative, 69 volume; second part describes philosophical Czapski’s deliberations on the work problematics. The article shows the influence of significant readings, written by Stanisław Brzozowski, Cyprian Norwid and Simone Weil, on personal Czapski’s rethinking, referring to sense and target of creation process. “Work coercion” in the title (used by Weil) means the physical effort as well necessary element of man’s interior growth/development: it is the problem of responsibility. It influences the creation of reality and allows saving the human dignity. It is essential component of Czapski’s work ethic.
