Summary/Abstract: The LinguaSap language proficiency exam is an internal language exam of Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, established in 2012. It offers language exams for the students of the University in the English and German languages. The present exploratory study aimed to examine the English-language skills of university students at the Faculty of Economics, Socio-Human Sciences and Engineering in Miercurea Ciuc based on the LinguaSap test scores in English between the years 2013 and 2023. In order to get an insight into students’ language proficiency skills, quantitative descriptive analyses of the data were performed, focusing on students’ exam test result in the separate language skills. A number of studies suggest that among the four basic language skills, learners consider productive skills (writing and speaking) to be more difficult. The results of the study reveal students’ strengths and weaknesses regarding the different language skills, which might help language teachers plan their lessons and focus more on those skills that prove to be challenging for students.
