Summary/Abstract: The topic of the article examines problems of the semantics of diminutive nouns, which are an element of the lexical fund of any language. The investigated diminutives were found in fairy tales of the Bulgarian writer Angel Karaliychev and the German authors Grimm Brothers, compared with their translated texts. The purpose of the study is to establish and summarize some important morphosemantic features of the diminutives in the Bulgarian and German languages, using the comparative method of linguistic analysis. Problems are presented, such as the essence of diminutiveness as a derivational process, the interrelationships between the elements of the word in connection with the formation of its semantics. The results of the study would provide answers to questions in the field of word formation, lexicology and linguistics in general.
