Summary/Abstract: ChatGPT represents an artificial intelligence model, which can text, answer questions and hold conversations in a natural manner, based on a vast amount of data it has been trained with. Students use the chatbot in their academic activity for a variety of reasons. The present research aims to identify students' views on the connection between the use of ChatGPT and their academic performance. 262 students from the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, Romania, participated in the research. Most students perceive ChatGPT as being useful in completing academic tasks, but its utilization is not always associated with academic performance. The study indicates that there is no direct connection between ChatGPT utilization and academic performance. Preliminary findings suggest the need for expanded research to validate and examine these connections more deeply.
