Summary/Abstract: In contemporary society, psychosocial support and counseling represent significant links in addressing psychosocial problems and difficulties. Despite this, there is a noted insufficient response to treatment due to deeply rooted stereotypes and prejudices against professionals, stigma, and a lack of awareness regarding the benefits of counseling work. Considering that students in Bosnia and Herzegovina are a vulnerable group, this study examined the experiences, attitudes, and awareness of students at the University of Sarajevo regarding psychosocial assistance and counseling. Through a questionnaire, 200 students were surveyed about their knowledge of mental health, their attitudes, and experiences in seeking professional help for psychosocial issues. The data indicate that respondents generally hold positive attitudes toward professional assistance in the form of counseling and/or psychotherapy, yet simultaneously display relatively low willingness to seek such help, along with a marked indifference toward stigma. This work may provide insight into students’ experiences and readiness to seek professional support through psychosocial assistance and counseling to overcome life challenges. The findings from this research can serve as guidelines for stakeholders in promoting improvements in students’ quality of life, aiming to strengthen and enhance the accessibility of professional support through psychosocial assistance and counseling.
