Summary/Abstract: The article examines the use of the analytical diminutives in the German press texts.The semantic analysis of the documented diminutives is based on three criteria: establishing themeaning of the diminutive affixes (germ. Konfixe) according to their meanings; determining themeaning of the bases or roots from which the diminutives are derived; assigning the differentiationsof the meanings to the „denotative – connotative‟ groups.The analysis reveals that the denotative meaning of the diminutive affixes (germ. Konfixe) isrealised in the vast majority of the analysed examples. The connotative meaning of the analyticaldiminutive formations involves additional associations, emotions, or value judgments. The functionof these formations depends on the context and on the author‟s intention
