Summary/Abstract: Higher education institutions (HEIs) are key institutions contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations. The aim of this paper is to examine how HEIs are implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in their operations. For this reason, a comparative study of the strategies of leading universities in the world and Bulgaria related to the implementation of sustainable development concepts in teaching, research and management is made. The results show that for Bulgarian HEIs this direction of development is still new, but is necessary for them to be full participants in the global educational process.
