Summary/Abstract: The text presents the situation of children from Ukrainian care institutions and foster families who came to Poland after February 22, 2022. Escape from the war and searching for a temporary place of residence turned into a stay of over two years, requiring children and caregivers to adapt to the conditions in Poland. The organizers of this stay faced the challenge of building long-term solutions to best secure the developmental needs of this group of children and youth. The article presents the most important needs of children in the first period of their stay and the problems that arose in the adaptation process.
