Summary/Abstract: Fairy tales have a universal appeal that transcends language and cultural barriers. They are familiar stories that children grow up with and are often part of their cultural heritage. Therefore, using fairy tales in foreign language lessons can help students become familiar with thenew language, making the lessons more lively and engaging. The tales are narratives wich arecharacterized by vivid imagery, complex themes, and a somber tone, although they borrow elementsfrom folk tales. The fairy tales are often more nuanced and sophisticated in their narrative. Inaddition, they tend to be longer and more complex than folk tales and therefore require a higher levelof linguistic and literary understanding.
