Summary/Abstract: The contribution of St. Andrew of Crete to the hymnography of the feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God is a significant and edifying one regarding the event celebrated on September 8. The Canon of Matins places the believer in cognitive and spiritual contact with the Mother of the new humanity, restored through Christ. The author is under the influence of the Christian geographical-spiritual triad, Damascus, Jerusalem, Constantinople, which was the basis for the foundation and promotion of the feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God. Damascus through theological poetry, Jerusalem through offering the typical model, and Constantinople through the adoption and spread of the holiday. The stylistics of his hymnography highlight the theological elements surrounding the birth of the Virgin Mary so that the faithful people have easier access to the knowledge of the one from whom the Son of God took His human nature. All this effort of St. Andrew of Crete comes from the love and piety he had for the Mother of God.
