- Summary/Abstract:For the Russian monarchy, the Orthodox faith was a very important element around which both religious and political plans were built. In contrast, the Bolsheviks perceived Orthodoxy as a potential threat since it had the potential to stir national and independence interests among populations in various countries. As a result, the Communists initiated distinct and radical actions against the Church. They labeled the Church as a counter-revolutionary force, leading to active measures taken against it. Consequently, theCommunist Party began to take cruel steps against the bourgeoisie, and these bourgeois elements included the clergy, which was reflected in the repressions against them. In 1922, Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Georgia, Ambrose (Khelaia), addressed a memorandum to the Genoa Conference. He described the situation following the Red Army’s invasion of Georgia as ‘very difficult.’ On behalf of the Georgian people, he protested the situation in his country and asked the international community for help. Of course, this step was not welcomed by the State. In March 1924, a trial took place in one of the theaters in Tbilisi, where Patriarch Ambrose and his comrades were declared as defendants. During this courtproceeding, the patriarch delivered a distinctive and memorable speech. The purpose of our paper is to highlight the main characteristics of the historical processes taking place during this period and to emphasize the hopeful words of Patriarch Ambrose, which are still very significant today.

- Summary/Abstract:The Romanian Orthodox Church has been reluctant to the innovative initiatives of the Romanian society since the beginning of the 20th century. Although the public presence of the Church was not diminished, given that King Carol I was a practicing Catholic but understood the need for some reforms to take into account the pre-existing and prevailing cultural-religious code, the phasing of the relationship between the two institutions is based on problems internal and overlaps with modernization (as a historical process) or modernity (as a result of this process). Thus, if at the end of the 19th century, the Metropolitan Iosif Naniescu of Moldova shows himself as a censor of the overly aggressive modernization initiatives, the beginning of the 20th century brings a completely different perspective of the opening of the Metropolitanate of Moldova to the modernization process. The new hierach, Metropolitan Partenie Clinceni brings new innovative ideas to the citadel of Moldavia: the building of brick churches, pastoral visits to almost every parish and the realization of a better and more efficient collaboration between the metropolitan chancellery and the subunits of the diocese, in this case the protopochies.

- Summary/Abstract:In Moldova at the end of the 19th century, monastic life was still feeling the effects of the reform of the ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza, but after the War of Independence (1877-1878), a period of flourishing of monastery life was in sight. However, in the history of the organisation of monastic life in Moldavia, there are cases mentioned in which some of the monasteries and hermitages were proposed, at the request of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (address no. 8572 of 12 June 1892), for dissolution. The reason for these decisions was based on statistics from the territory which reflected an approximate situation of monastic life. A supporter of monastic life was Saint Hierarch Joseph Naniescu who, after urging the monks and nuns to actively participate in the War of Independence, tried to reorganize monasticism both from within, as a monk himself, and from outside, as a representative of the Moldavian Metropolitanate in the country's parliament. The present work seeks to capture aspects of the re-organisation of monasticism in Moldavia under the auspices of the guidance of Saint Hierarch Joseph Naniescu and the legislation of the Kingdom of Romania.

- Summary/Abstract:The First World War ended for us, the Romanians, with a resounding victory, the creation of the Romanian unitary national state. However, this state will not last long because the Second World War is knocking at Romania's gates, which will once again carry the country's army into heavy, but also unusual and bloody battles, being forced to go to the heart of the Soviet Union defending itself the country and having only one clearly established objective, namely, the recovery of the stolen territories. In this war, the Romanian soldiers faced not only the invincible power of the Russians, but also the most feared enemy for all, the Russian winter. This war was cataloged by the people and the Orthodox Church as a "holy war" waged against the godless. With the objective clearly defined, the country's army will be present alongside Hitler's Germany at the Don Bend from September 1942 to February 1943, when decimated by the fury of the Red Army, they return home with a peaceful conscience that they gave everything they could to defend the front and the dignity of Romania , but my soul is broken for those who perished under Russian bullets and tanks.

- Summary/Abstract:This article tries to summarize how the perception over the East-West Schism (1054) has evolved along the past centuries. An event that was overlooked by chroniclers, because it seemed like just a normal scuffle between bishops, has later been seen as the point (and even the reason) that Eastern and Western christianity has split. As researchers had more and more access to documents from both sides, the perception has slowly become more objective. In recent days, most historians consider that the split was inevitable, as the two sides have evolved differently. The theological exchange of arguments from 1053 and 1054 had peace, unity and uniformity in mind. Both parties wanted to heal the tensions and avoid the split. Yet, because they focused on points that were less important, acted with pride and attacked each other, their discourse lost its healing capabilities. Instead of patching the gap between the two poles, they had widened it even further. This article also showcases how focusing on lesser important subjects can completely overshadow the real dogmatical problems in a theological debate. It points out in what cases a theological discourse cannot build, nor heal.

- Summary/Abstract:The Union of the Romanian Principalities was a lengthy challenging process. God appoints the right people at the right times. Hence, He worked in the unification process of the Principalities. Such a person is the Metropolitan of Moldavia, Sofronie Miclescu (1851-1860). He had a significant role in this process. Starting with the year 1856, he committed to the fight for the objective of the Romanians. He was a tireless fighter, and his weapons were his words. He assailed the infringement committed by the leadership of those times, but also other anti-unionists. He had the honor of being the president of the Ad-hoc Assembly and the Elective Assembly, after which Colonel Alexandru Ioan Cuza became the ruler under which the Romanian Principalities were united. The contribution of this hierarch is praiseworthy, as he stood out for the honesty and perseverance with which he supported the union of Moldavia with Wallachia. Metropolitan Sofronie was one of the distinguished hierarchs who fought for the fulfillment of a goal, a dream and a hope that had been atrophied for many centuries.

- Summary/Abstract:Our article is dedicated to a special orthodox category of saints named The Holy Doctors without payment. It contains twelve names, including Saints Cyr and John martyrs from the early fourth century. In its first part, we focused on the idea that The Church, as St. John Chrysostom named it, is a '' Spiritual Hospital '' having the power of healing given to Her by Jesus Christ, The Physician of our souls and bodies. Then we extended our research showing that the Saints have the power of healing not by them but as an extension of the power of Jesus, as an act of participation to His power. Some references to their life and the liturgical structure of the Service dedicated to them were added. Finally, we did a short theological analysis of the hymnography to underline different aspects and meanings concerning the idea of healing manifested by Jesus through the saints in the Church of His glory.

- Summary/Abstract:The theme of theological reflection set by the Holy Synod for the year 2024 also provides an opportunity to take a careful look at the pastoral approach of the Christianity, by the priest, in one of the most difficult situations in life, illness. By the nature of his pastoral ministry, the priest is often in the situation of visiting sick Christians, at home or in hospital, reading them a prayer, listening to their confession, and doing the Holy Communion. The method of spiritual closeness and especially the pastoral method of approaching delicate aspects, which are related to the extreme situation that the illness creates in human life, are part of the art of pastoralism. Not much is said about these things in the classes of the Pastoral discipline during theological studies. And if we also take into account the lack of an official manual of "Pastoral Care" in Romanian theology, updated to the mentality of the sick and to their present demands, the problem becomes even more difficult. Using the text of the anastatic edition of this manual, edited by Fr. prof. dr. Viorel Sava and Deacon, Phd, Cezar Pelin (Iasi, 2011), the present study aims to identify these pastoral principles enunciated by the bishop-author at the end of the 19th century, to put them in mirror with the spiritual requirements of the Fathers of the Church who dealt with the problem of pastoring the sick, to observe their effectiveness for pastoring in the Novecento and to confront them with today's mentality and psycho-pastoral requirements, trying also some suggestions for "a step further".

- Summary/Abstract:The restorative work in the Orthodox Church finds its origins in the earthly practice of Jesus Christ, whose ministry was a continuous series of healings – a natural outcome of divine mercy toward afflicted human nature. According to St. John Chrysostom’s interpretation of the healing of the paralytic (Matthew 9, 1-8), it is the soul’s restoration that is the hardest to accomplish, and the physical healing follows naturally from this. The Church has promoted and deepened the Word of Scriptures through painting, which serve as the beautiful means of therapy in visual form. The Word is divine, while the word has divine origin, and can be expressed in poetry, acting, music, writing and proclaiming, most of them in the context of such an amazing liturgical life. The Orthodox Church has embraced the Word of Scriptures, adorned it with music and hymns, dogmatic formulas which are to be proclaimed towards the people of God, who need comfort, healing and eventually salvation. When one prays, one’s soul raises up to heavenly realms; when more people pray, the visible and invisible “Church” join in, becoming an environment and a form of therapy that rescues and promotes well-being here and a sense of safety in the age to come.

He continued there, the great spiritual work and patristic translations but also he tried to make the monastery much bigger because the amount of the monks increased very fast. Asking for financial support from Voievod Constantin Moruzi, the state head, to continue the constructions in order to meke space for the brotherhood which was multiplying day by day, he received a response from the state that changed all his plans and silent. The decision of the state and the Metropolitan was not to support him in the Secu Monastery, but to move along with the brotherhood to a much bigger Monastery , which was the great Monastery of Neamts. - Summary/Abstract:The contribution of St. Andrew of Crete to the hymnography of the feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God is a significant and edifying one regarding the event celebrated on September 8. The Canon of Matins places the believer in cognitive and spiritual contact with the Mother of the new humanity, restored through Christ. The author is under the influence of the Christian geographical-spiritual triad, Damascus, Jerusalem, Constantinople, which was the basis for the foundation and promotion of the feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God. Damascus through theological poetry, Jerusalem through offering the typical model, and Constantinople through the adoption and spread of the holiday. The stylistics of his hymnography highlight the theological elements surrounding the birth of the Virgin Mary so that the faithful people have easier access to the knowledge of the one from whom the Son of God took His human nature. All this effort of St. Andrew of Crete comes from the love and piety he had for the Mother of God.

- Summary/Abstract:The current research argues the issue of the origin and evolution of the written tradition concept in the life of the Church. Developed by ancient Sumerians, the writing technique has gradually entered the Church, becoming the favorite method of its servants when making official pronouncements. This option was justified by three arguments. First of all, it gave doctrinal certainty and protected the believers from the risk of dogmatized content distortion. Secondly, it facilitated sharing the faith teaching when the preacher could not be present in the missionary field whenever it was necessary. Third, it was a guarantee that the future generations would have access to their content, for witness and for trust. Based on these arguments, the written tradition considerably expanded, so Church developed a true art of printing.

The main methods that I will approach in the drafting process are: historical, descriptive, exegetic, comparative and liturgical commentary. In the first part, through the historical method, I will present the history of the Hymn-Akathist. In the second part, by means of the comparative method, I will draw up some tables with the help of which I will present the main sources from which the author of the Hymn-Akathist was inspired, as well as the textual dependencies on the Holy Scripture and the homilies of the Holy Fathers: St. Proclus, Patriarch of Constantinople (434-446); Saint Cyril, Archbishop of Alexandria (412-444) and Bishop Basil of Seleucia (440-468). Then, through the exegetical method, descriptive and liturgical commentary, I will present the theological-spiritual meanings of the themes specific to the Feast of the Annunciation.

Since the beginnings of the cenobitic monasticism in the Eastern Ortohodoxy, there have been specific times when he prior addressed his monks with exhortations whose essential purpose was to explain the word of God and spiritual growth. The frequency of the words addressed by the prior to the monks of Studion Monastery is inspired by this practice.Catecheses reveal the greatness of this dignity, but also the burden it implies. The burden consisted in the fact that the abbot had to adapt to the temperaments of his numerous monks and avoid the danger of treating them uniformly. The abbot assisted each in their striving for perfection and, in order to adapt to the needs to the needs of each, he must know them in depth.

- Summary/Abstract:One of the problems of church administration that marked the archbishopric of Iasi and Bucharest in the second half of the 19th century was the material situation of the lay clergy, which was far from satisfactory. This problem, the poverty of a significant part of the priests, attracted the attention of the superior clergy, but only after significant protests of the "subordinates". Two of these protests materialized in the congresses held by them in 1882 in Bucharest and 1885 in Focșani. The peculiarity of these priestly congresses is that the meetings were held without the blessing and consent of the hierarchs. Using the periodical "Deșteptarea" the priests were to publicly lament their fate, condemning the abusive behavior of the hierarchs in their dealings with them, the lack of representatives (priests of myrrh) in the Holy Synod and the lack of empathy of the hierarchs towards their problems. The brother priests employed in the administrative apparatus were not forgotten either, as they were accused of putting pressure on priests to pay various dues to the diocesan centers.

- Summary/Abstract:The Transfiguration of Christ is one of the greatest and most explicit theophanies ever recorded in Christian tradition, The Glory and The Light being almost omnipresent in the New Testament Scriptures. As always, the hymnography of the feast notices, assumes, and enshrines the mistagogical significance which rises from the Scriptures and from the hermeneutics of the Fathers. This is why a believer who joins the life in Christ in Church understands that the Feast of Transfiguration is not only a remembrance of the first century Thabor event, but also an eschatological promise and an invitation for one to be part of the fulfilment of the Transfiguration that started on Thabor, surrounded by the entire Church: the Law, The Prophets, The Gospel and The Apostolic tradition, all into the same ‘cloud’ of the Holy Spirit. The luminous Grace which coated Jesus Christ was not something which He received in that moment, but His power which was now unveiled for the eyes of disciples, ‘inasmuch as they could bear’, to strengthen their faith in the light of Passion, which was close, preparing them to understand the real Glory and to recognise Him as the King of Glory (Ο Βασιλεὺς της Δόξης). The link between Thabor and Golgotha is visible not only because it respects the Gospel’s chronology, but also the hymnography attests it through plenty of references to the Cross, keeping the subtle trace of the place of the Feast of Transfiguration into the Great Lent’s context.

While tattoos have historical and cultural significance, today they are primarily a means of body modification and self-identity. The ethical concerns arise from the permanence of tattoos, which are associated with physical health risks and can influence how individuals relate to their evolving selves and social roles. The Fathers of the Church, noting that people attach great importance to the beauty of the body - which is perishable, temporary and of no use for the spiritual life and the attainment of holiness - compare it with the beauty of the soul, which is not subject to physical decay and attracts the love and esteem of one's fellow men and the favour of God. In their view, all forms of excessive beautification of the body can encourage a materialistic mentality and promote vanity. The article concludes that while tattooing is not intrinsically evil, it can easily divert the spiritual life from its true course.

- Summary/Abstract:The reception by the byzantine churches of the successful dialogue between the Eastern Orthodox and the Oriental Orthodox Churches reveals the inherent problems in Byzantine Ecclesiology that is built on an imperial structure. Byzantine ecclesiology is built on authority rather than on a sincere and honest search for the truth. The authority of the councils is more important than the content of the councils, which neglects the human conditions, and substitutes communication and consensus with external guarantee, regardless of questions of truth. This makes the pleroma of the Church diminished and suppress the plurality of distinctions, which has given rise to totalitarian structures of the Church. In this totalitarian environment, the miapysites has been treated as heretics as a matter of indisputable fact, regardless of what they say themselves. This indicates that Byzantine orthodoxy is in a state of incarceration. Receiving the successful dialogue will not just end a 1500 yearlong division, but also heal the incarcerated Byzantine orthodoxy.

- Summary/Abstract:Originating in the criticism of patriarchy, feminist theology developed two main ideological axes: the reformist and the radical one. The radical feminist theology shortly managed to "build" a new (pseudo)religion, with its own divinity, doctrine and morality. The term theology itself has been replaced by that of thealogy, as a reference to a supreme female deity. In the absence of a mythology, thealogy created its own one by adopting a constructivist approach which consisted in a compilation of "intuition and historical research". The same attitude was present in the discourse about the Goddess, resulting a multitude of perspectives on the continuum between ontological reality of the feminine deity and its use as a sui generis metaphor for feminine. Far from succeeding in presenting itself as an alternative to Christianity, the Goddess cult born out of radical feminist theology could not, despite all efforts, overcome the stage of diffuse spirituality, with syncretistic practices and an extremely fluid doctrine.

- Summary/Abstract:Although he was not a parish priest, through his teaching activity, theological writings, and entire life, Rev. Professor Dumitru Stăniloae contributed to the formation of several generations of ministers of the Church. The timeliness of his thought still inspires theological education today, constituting a genuine treasury of spirituality and spiritual life for the future. His writings, rooted in the patristic tradition of the Church, formulate answers, open up perspectives and convince readers that true theology is not limited to reading, but must spring from and rest in communion with Christ. Thus, young men who wish to become priests must be prepared to convert the souls of the faithful by a theological training that is appropriate for their time, but also by a pure life, appropriate for this ministry. Theological culture implies and requires spiritual experience in the liturgical and sacramental space of the Church, the university chapel and the library being the sites where students learn about theology and how it can be experienced. ‘Being a man of prayer’ is the first quality of the priest. He must learn how to be attentive and aware that Christ is working through him and that he is sent to draw people to His life. The priest will be happy when, fulfilling his duty with all love, he feels Christ in himself and, above all, when each of those entrusted to him for perfection has discovered the overwhelming beauty of the light-filled life pulsating in the body of the Church.

- Summary/Abstract:A priest's work of bringing people to Christ makes it imperative that his life should revolve around the One that he serves. Father Dumitru Stăniloae's desire to bring Christ into the hearts of students, of people in general, is a red thread that links his life to his entire work. The attention he gives to the priest springs from the desire that the servant be a worthy worker of the Lord. This is why, in his writings, he approaches a variety of topics: the sublimity of ministering, without isolating himself in idealism; a priest’s realism and heroism, without letting himself be overwhelmed by pragmatism deprived of perspective; the priest's home, family and household. But the concern for the priest's spiritual life, for his attention to the soul, to faith and the fruit-bearing joys born of face-to-face encounters with his faithful, is persistently present. Pastorship fulfills its purpose when the priest, animated by the deepest and purest desires to attain holiness, sacrifices himself to Christ out of love for his parishioners, in a courageous familiarity with their afflictions and fulfillments. The priest is the one who shines like a consuming fire, who gives off heat without burning, and who changes lives and enkindles hearts through his love for God.

- Summary/Abstract:This paper, from an Anglican attending a majority Orthodox symposium will examine the issue of language in addressing the challenge of Christ’s prayer in John 17 that “they may be one”. By looking at historical and contemporary inter-tradition doctrinal debates the paper questions to what degree these tensions and divisions in the Church owe their origin to real theological disagreement and to what degree linguistic, cultural, and even pollical, differences have played their part in schism and the scandal of disunity in the Body of Christ. At a more superficial level the use of words such as evangelism and renewal can be as uncomfortable for Orthodox believers as deification and veneration (of icons and saints) are for many non-Orthodox Christians. At a deeper theological level this paper suggests that there were cultural-linguistic factors at play in the drifting apart and eventual Great Schism between Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy, and at the Reformation, a process mirrored in contemporary attempts to reach doctrinal agreement between Churches that have been richly shaped by different languages, cultures and political regimes. In conclusion the paper offers a few insights from a Church, the Anglican Church, which has inherited a dual heritage both from the Latin Catholic Church and from the Celtic expression of the historic undivided Church, and today struggles to maintain its own unity as its members (in 202 countries) express their faith through more that 250 different languages and cultures.

- Summary/Abstract:For the patient, illness is not merely a physical condition, but also a psychological challenge and a disturbance of the soul. The more severe the illness is, the more the concept of care evolves, in order to encompass not only the medical treatment, but also the management of the negative emotional states generated by the disease. These emotional states can be experienced by both patient and his family members, leading to an expanded concept of care that includes not only the patient, but also their family. The family plays a fundamental role in healing or coping with the illness by supporting and caring for the patient. The spiritual approach of the illness takes on specific nuances depending on the type of illness and whether the patient practices a religion or receives spiritual assistance. Often, receiving or asking for spiritual assistance aligns with the patient’s pre-existing spiritual concerns or arises after the experience of illness, which may spark, for the first time, an interest in the spiritual dimension of life. The purpose of this paper is to theoretically analyze the role of the priest within the multidisciplinary healthcare team in providing psycho-spiritual support to patients and their families.

- Summary/Abstract:This essay explores the intersection of religious dietary ethics and secular, liberal nutritional principles, hereafter referred to as 'released' nutritional morals. This study conducts a comparative analysis of major world religions and secular dietary freedoms to clarify the ethical, bioethical, and health implications of religious dietary practices. By examining specific religious dietary codes, such as Judaism's kashrut, and contrasting them with the principle of moral autonomy in personal dietary choices, the research underscores the intricate relationship between tradition, ethics, and modern eating behaviors. The findings suggest that religious dietary practices not only offer significant health benefits but also encourage a disciplined approach to consumption, potentially counterbalancing the excesses of a more liberated dietary ethos.

- Summary/Abstract:One of the most important differences between Catholic and Eastern Orthodox ethics concerns the notions of “moral absolutes” and “intrinsically evil acts’. Although, for traditional Catholic moral theology, there are acts absolutely regarded as evil, regardless of any underlying intentions and circumstances, the Orthodox Church has not adopted these concepts, emphasizing, not law and obligation, but divine economy. This has led to divergent views on several ethical issues, with artificial contraception being one of the most important of them. While Catholic ethics considers contraception intrinsically evil due to its perceived violation of natural law, Orthodox theology, although regards contraception as generally evil, tends to allow for greater pastoral discretion, viewing it within the broader context of God’s economy and the sanctity of marital relationships. What is the impact of this divergence on interfaith marriages involving individuals from these two traditions? This is the answer that this paper will answer, exploring the practical implications and challenges arising from doctrinal differences in moral theology within the context of “mixed” Christian marital unions.

- Summary/Abstract:In the world in which he lives, from a spiritual point of view, two horizons are constantly open to the man on the path to salvation: that of good and that of evil. That is why Saint Peter the Damascene considers that in this way man is permanently between righteousness and sin, which is why it depends on him which way he goes forward. If his choice is the good, the justice, the truth, then the man proves that he has spiritual discernment and is a man with a healthy soul. In the vision of Talasius the Libyan, the healthy man is the one who sees how sins and virtues stand next to each other, and by distinguishing them, he can choose the practice of virtues in order to follow the path of eternal life. Therefore, man, by his will, either chooses to freely fulfill virtue and live beautifully and healthily, or to become a slave to the passions that lead to suffering, disease and death. God has thus given man the ability to choose between these ways of existence in order to make him responsible for his own life and, therefore, to make him aware that assuming life also means a great responsibility towards his personal life, towards his peers, as well as towards by Him. Because, by the way he lives in body and soul the life that God has given him, man fully acquires for himself either immortality and eternal happiness, or eternal death.

- Summary/Abstract:Disease is a reality of the world we live in that cannot be denied. By becoming aware of the illness of the soul, man discovers the illness of the body. As a psycho-physical creature, both bodily and spiritual sufferings are included in man. Through the body man relates to the matter of nature, to the cosmos, and through the soul he articulates to God. For these reasons, the Church treats people's sufferings through the Sacrament of Holy Olives. By means of it, the believer who has fallen ill is anointed with holy oil together with the prayers of the priests, through which the healing grace descends and the body and soul are freed from sins. Through the Mystery of the Oil God's love works, which gives health to the sick. The ministering priests ask the Lord through the Sacrament of the Oil that the sick person find the strength to work for his salvation from the disease. Performing the Sacrament of Holy Olives does not produce the immediate healing of the sick either because of sins or because God has a different plan for the sufferer. However, the Grace shared at the Sacrament of Holy Olives immediately offers comfort, peace and strengthens the sufferer to bear his pain and pray for release and forgiveness of sins. A Syrian holy father from the 4th century, Aphraates, considered that the anointing of the sick is a divine mystery that completely pours life on the Christian believers, because, just as priests, kings and prophets are anointed who enlighten the peoples, so is the anointing of the sick give them health and repentance. So, as priests, kings and prophets were once anointed with oil in the Old Law, today, through the anointing with oil consecrated at the Holy Olive, the divine power descends on the sick who gives them, in addition to physical healings and the forgiveness of sins, that is, soul healings.

- Summary/Abstract:In today’s world we can sadly assist at the public downfall of moral and spiritual values, since most tend to sacrifice their time, well-being and even their faith in an obsessive and selfish search for comfort and pleasure, no matter the cost, fed to them mostly by the virtual propaganda. On the other hand, the Orthodox Church comes to teach that the man shouldn’t focus on what matters only from a material perspective, but to put his faith at work and take care of his spiritual health since, after all, it won’t stop here, but continue in eternity. In fact, Jesus Christ’s redemption reshaped the existence, bringing freedom in Him and revealing the necessary means for the humans to grow in His love. Such evolution depends directly on how the man manifests love in concrete relationships, but also on the capability to express his confession of faith, in a non-counterfeit way. The later can be exemplified with the power and authority of reason, sometimes requiring a more academic approach, focusing on how the mind tends to view Lord’s teachings in a theoretical manner. This way, it can be stated that faith should be displayed through the work of words, walking in St. Paul’s example of theological speech, while being completed by the concrete good deeds of philantrophy, that should be anchored in prayer and humblesness.

With the formation of the great empires, and later with the formation of nation states, the concept of the polis underwent a far-reaching change, moving from the microsocial to the macrosocial level, developing in itself thanks to the new institutions necessary for the social-administrative organisation of a large number of individuals who would constitute themselves as members of a state. The Christian, as a member of society must find the ideal balance between his principles of faith and his duty to be a devout, law-abiding citizen who contributes to the welfare of his community.

- Summary/Abstract:The Church has a philanthropic vocation par excellence, following the command of the Savior Jesus Christ, who at His second coming, at the Last Judgment, will bless or sanction us based on whether we attended to Him when He was in suffering, identifying Himself truly with those in suffering: „Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Mt. 25, 40). Saint Basil the Great fulfilled this special vocation by establishing philanthropic institutions for the sick, the elderly, orphans, and strangers, which flourished within the Byzantine Empire. The Romanian Orthodox Church adopted this tradition of serving the sick by organizing infirmaries near monasteries, closely linked with the church-infirmary where the Holy Liturgy, Holy Unction, and prayers for those in suffering were constantly performed. These services benefited not only the elderly or sick monks but also the faithful from nearby areas or sick travelers. In addition to the spiritual benefits of the prayers, they were also physically treated with medicinal plants known to the monks. We can affirm that healing from the beginning was conceived as an ecclesial act directly connected with the Savior Jesus Christ, through the renunciation of passions and union with Christ through the Holy Communion, „the medicine of immortality”. Within the Church, the first public hospitals were also established, supported by the devotion and work of the monks. With the establishment of the communist regime, this method of spiritual-medical assistance was banned, and hospitals became state institutions, excluding the missionary-charitable service of priests. There were reported cases where priests offered religious assistance clandestinely. Today, we pose the following questions: Is there still a need for charity priests in hospitals? Should suffering be approached from a Christian perspective? How can the Church play a significant role in alleviating the suffering of those in need?

- Summary/Abstract:This study aims to present the contribution of the anglican, biochemist and theologian, Arthur Peacocke, to the dialogue between science and theology. It will focus on the scientific perspective about God's continuing care for His creation and on the response from Christian theology to scientific progress. The topic will be presented both from a scientific perspective, using Peacocke's research, and from a Christian theological perspective, with reference to the thought of the Eastern Holy Fathers. Arthur Peacocke was able to integrate his research with theological discoveries, thereby perceiving the entire world as the product of a supreme reason, which has established an order and remains present in His creation, leading it towards its ultimate purpose. The conclusion is that the world is not separate from God, but is in God. The process of creation is an ongoing process, so God is not a creator from the past, but is creating in the present. Arthur Peacocke's work provides a solid basis for understanding certain processes of nature, as an order established by God in creation. He also sets a credible standard for the interaction between science and theology, acknowledging the different language systems and attitudes of science and theology, and valuing the contribution that both disciplines can make to this dialogue.

The Army of the Lord began the fight against the sins that have been affecting the Romanian society a hundred years ago: alcoholism, smoking and swearing, but it also takes on the fight against the sins of contemporary society, such as the sin of abortion so common in Romanian society, concubinage, divorce, religious indifferentism, libertinism, etc., which are a consequence of other heavy sins: unbelief, lust, greed, addictions of all kinds, etc. The Army of the Lord is concerned with theological discourse, and with the word that builds and heals.

- Summary/Abstract:Aware that the main function of language is that of communication, the Church has always testified that the power of communication was planted by God in man so that he would not live in isolation but in communion. The purpose of this study is to highlight the mystery and mystery hidden in the depths of man, which reveals its presence using sacred language through symbols. There is a theology of ideas, which godly outlines the mystery in knowledge, and an apophatic theology of symbol. In the former, reason reigns, and words are mirrors which, in light, reflect the divine world, and in the latter, love reigns, and symbols evoke mysteries beyond words. The importance of the symbol is also given by the fact that it is a hierophany. Between the two contradictions, the sacred and the profane, the hierophany is the only one that captures both, because it is the manifestation of the sacred in the profane. Symbol, as a form of hierophany, captures this revelation, along with other hierophanies: myth, ritual, and even artistic metaphor, insofar as it allows the unseen to reveal itself.

Gen. 3:4), which is the sickness of diseases in that „were lifetime subject to bondage” (Heb. 2:15), all the sons of Adam. Thus, the deterioration of the human body through sickness or through its natural aging is irreversibly, closely linked to the condition of man after the fall, this being the most tragic but also visible somatic consequence of the fall. Sickness reveals to us the fragility of our earthly being and the fact that health and earthly life are transitory, for „our body is destined to weaken, to decay and finally to die”, for „dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return”. (Gen. 3:19). God Himself warned our forefathers of the consequences of disobeying His command, „Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. (Gen. 3:3) Consequently, as St. Simeon the New Theologian said, there is no man who is perfectly healthy in this life, health being nothing but a partial and provisional equilibrium.

- Summary/Abstract:The trust that society gives to social networks cannot be ignored, but above all it must be exploited in the most correct sense possible, because they can become a modern tool of pastoral care. Considering that there are also risks, they must be seen not as an obstacle, but rather as a concrete fact, but which is not fueled by the Church. In parallel with the mission and the message that the specialized institutions dress up in a language adapted to the internet, the Orthodox Church must show that only through a healthy discernment, the faithful can use the virtual space without confusing their presence during church services with watching broadcasts in direct. The presence of the Romanian Orthodox Church on social networks must represent a moral landmark, serving the Truth, which becomes an alternative and a supplement in the daily consumption of information. In an inflation of data and ideas, the Church has the chance to assume a public role in the formation of opinions, by managing not only the evangelical message delivered from the pulpit, but also by promoting religious values in a society modern secularized.

- Summary/Abstract:This study offers a biblical perspective on happiness, examining the Gospel of St. Luke's unique approach to the subject. By analyzing the Beatitudes and the parable of the Good Samaritan, the study explores how Luke redefines happiness as a state of faith, compassion, and social justice. Contrary to the contemporary emphasis on material wealth and personal success, Luke's teachings encourage a shift in perspective, urging believers to seek fulfillment through selfless love and service to others. The Gospel challenges prevailing cultural norms, offering a countercultural message that is particularly relevant in today's world. Through a deeper understanding of Luke's vision of happiness, individuals can find a more profound and lasting sense of fulfillment.

- Summary/Abstract:The Bible describes unusual and strange prophetic actions, which are often referred to as Symbolic Actions/Acts. Symbolism was an integral part of those actions as the message was depicted in a prophetic deed and then disclosed to its spectators. Bible scholars give them a separate place in the discussion of prophetic ministry. Symbolic actions were analyzed from many angles and discussed from various points of view. In the first stage, the essence of symbolic actions was considered from a literary point of view i.e. based on the form criticism. Later it was considered as a form of rhetorical nonverbal communication. Some researchers analyzed the mentioned actions in a philosophical context and even as sorcery. So, there are expressed diverse opinions about how to refer to the mentioned actions and which biblical episodes should be considered symbolic actions of the prophets. In addition to Symbolic Actions/Acts or Prophetic Acts, there are established several terms related to these acts: Street Theatre, Prophetic Drama, Demonstration Action, and Act/Deed of Power. The present article discusses the distinctive features of biblical symbolic action and its essence based on Church Fathers’ exegesis and explores instances of the mentioned phenomenon. Since the most symbolic acts are described in the Old Testament, the discussion will center around them. This article is based on doctoral research conducted at a department of Biblical studies at Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary.

- Summary/Abstract:The society in which we live brings new challenges to the Church and its ministers. Demographic decline, the exodus to Western countries and new religious doctrines are just some of the challenges to which we are called to offer immediate responses. This is why the Church, in order to be able to carry out its mission in this social context, must also show responsibility and discernment with regard to the issues of its ministers and all aspects of how they carry out their mission. It is therefore necessary to recognise that we are in a situation where we must immediately identify realistic solutions to the compatibilities or incompatibilities of the ministers in terms of how they can carry out their mission when they also carry out a professional activity. To achieve this aim, the first research basis must be the various biblical situations from which, by identifying cases in which ministers also carry out another activity, some paradigms can be outlined.
