Summary/Abstract: The term "polis" can be translated into Romanian by the word "city", which does not necessarily refer to a human settlement reinforced by a system of fortifications, but rather to the totality of the individuals who own the settlement in question and to the socio-moral norms that they impose in order to achieve the common good, the unity and functionality of the society within which the polis is located. With the formation of the great empires, and later with the formation of nation states, the concept of the polis underwent a far-reaching change, moving from the microsocial to the macrosocial level, developing in itself thanks to the new institutions necessary for the social-administrative organisation of a large number of individuals who would constitute themselves as members of a state. The Christian, as a member of society must find the ideal balance between his principles of faith and his duty to be a devout, law-abiding citizen who contributes to the welfare of his community.
