Summary/Abstract: The tourism development of the municipality of Samokov is determined by the availability of favorable tourist resources for various types of tourism, a functioning tourist material and technical base and a larger or smaller constant flow of tourists. The municipality is characterized by a pronounced two-season tourism - high winter ski tourism and twice as low summer mountain tourism. There are, however, a number of changes and challenges that necessitate the timely adaptation of tourism in the municipality and the development of alternative types of tourism. A prerequisite for such adaptation is the wealth of cultural and historical resources in the Samokov municipality. The report examines the most important of them, indicating the individual types of tourism that can be developed on their basis. The problems in the management of tourism in the municipality are also examined, the main challenge being climate changes, the post-Covid-19 adaptation of the tourist offer, the management at the municipal and company level, the lack of initiative among the local population and the proximity of Sofia to the municipality, which does not imply a large increase in the overnight stays of Bulgarian citizens. Alternative solutions are proposed to overcome the changes and difficulties facing the organization of tourism in Samokov municipality.
