Summary/Abstract: The human factor lies at the core of the long-term and sustainable success of any organization. The quality of products and services provided, and thus the competitiveness of the company, depends on the level of qualification, skills development, and potential of its employees. Given the dynamics of changes in the surrounding economic reality, an increasing number of companies recognize the investment nature of creating and maintaining high professional skills and abilities within their teams. That is why the strategy for training and development of personnel is being built and planned as a mandatory element of the overall vision for human resource management and the organization as a whole. This article reveals the interdependence between contemporary perspectives and trends in enhancing the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior of individuals within the organization, and the influence on attracting, retaining and engaging them in the company. The main external and internal challenges they face on the path to successful planning and implementation of activities related to training and development of their personnel are disclosed. Factors increasing the gap between the importance of this task and organizations' readiness to address it are analyzed.
