Summary/Abstract: The main thesis o f the paper is that the concept of ‘sociological system’ (a cornerstone in Bulgarian sociology in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s) could significantly increase its potential if we connect it with the Marxian idea, as developed by Merab Mamardashvili, of converted forms as a mechanism of the functioning of social systems as ‘systems with consciousness’. In that case, however, social systems should not be viewed as pre-given but as constructed by effects of the figuration of appearances, visibilities and pictures of visibility through which they are perceived and reproduced.
