Summary/Abstract: Positioning universities as catalysts for change in contemporary society is closely linked to their social engagement, realized through their „third mission.“ By promoting volunteerism, universities can cultivate socially responsible academic communities that make meaningful contributions to society. This report uses data from a specially developed questionnaire that examines the overall attitudes and perceptions of the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) academic community toward volunteering. Lecturers were segmented into two groups based on the extent and intensity of their volunteer experience. Various motivations for engaging in volunteer activities were examined and subsequently aggregated into distinct factors. The influence of these motivational factors on actual volunteer engagement is analyzed.
