Summary/Abstract: The healthcare system in Bulgaria consists of both public and private sectors, with key participants including the Ministry of Health, the NHIF, hospitals, and healthcare professionals. Despite significant efforts for modernization, the system faces serious challenges, such as insufficient funding, unequal access to services, the migration of healthcare workers, and slow implementation of innovations. The problems are reflected in low wages for healthcare workers, lack of modern technologies, and uneven distribution of medical facilities, particularly in rural areas. Proposed reforms include increasing funding, improving conditions for healthcare professionals, encouraging innovation, and strengthening prevention and health literacy among the population. These measures could improve the quality and access to healthcare services in Bulgaria.
