Summary/Abstract: After an analysis of the verses “Now also the Slav tribe is flying towards baptism, all those who wished to be called your people are converted”, the viewpoint is presented that the “Alphabetical Prayer” has been written in the 50’s or the 60’s of the 9th century in connection with the christening of the Slavs. Christenings, carried out at that time (of the Slavs along the River Bregalnitsa, the Morava Slavs, the “Rossis”; the official christening of Bulgaria by Prince Boris in 865–866 A. D.) are described and arguments are cited in favour of the assumption that the “Alphabetical Prayer” has been written by Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher during the period when Bulgaria adopted Christianity.
