Summary/Abstract: The excellent artistic mastery of Clement of Ochrida is shown through an analysis of biblical quotations and references in the “Encomium of Cyril”. He is an experienced interpreter, possessing a wealth of culture. The analysis is directed into several aspects: (1) Thematic Key; (2) Fearlessness in Bearing Witness; (3) Shining like the Sun; (4) Shepherd of the Slav People; (5) Thirst for Reason; and (6) the Triple Formula. It is pointed out in conclusion that the “Encomium of Cyril” was a marvelous apologetic work, one of the most perfect works of the Old Bulgarian literature where Clement of Ochrida through the eulogy of the feats of Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher defended in an ideologically substantiated manner the ecclesiastical independence of the First Bulgarian State.
