Summary/Abstract: The book by the Hungarian scholar of Slav Studies Imre Toth “Constantine-Cyril and Methodius” was published in Bulgarian in Sofia in 1981, during the First Congress of Bulgarian Studies. Professor Kuju Kuev was editor. During the same year the book appeared in the Hungarian language in Hungary. The purpose of the work was to present in a popular language the well-known data on the life and activities of the Slav enlighteners Cyril and Methodius. The lifes of the two brothers have served as the main sources. The analysis of the facts is everywhere purported by the historical substantiation, the author basing his arguments also on the most recent scientific achievements of Slav Studies. In conclusion, Toth dwells on the development of Slav literature in Bulgaria and its latest flourishing, concluding in these words: “What would be the fate of Slav literature without the intervention of Bulgaria no one knows. Possibly, it would have disappeared or would have functioned as a local, particular writing (as was the case with the Croatians) and would have no historical role which is discussed here”.
