Summary/Abstract: In the article there is proposed a critical look at the oeuvre of Ryszard Kapuściński from the perspective of his intellectual masters. Herodotus, Joseph Conrad and Bronisław Malinowski appear not only as great individualities in the history of the world but most of all, as incisive teachers accompanying him at different levels of his writing self-knowledge. Father of history gives Kapuściński first lesson on arcane of reportage, Korzeniowski shows him the consequences of European colonization and teaches him how to uncover the true reasons behind events, whereas Malinowski guides him to encounter with the Other. A need of mobility is common to all of them, a want of living which directly embraces the outside world and genuine care for artistic quality of their works.
