Summary/Abstract: The regional dimension of innovation is especially important given the existing big national differences with regards to the in-89stitutional frameworks, economic relations, the potential and opportunities for training, research and development. The experience of the four regions of the UK, which have developed innovative regional strategies, offers to the other European regions serious experience. All RIS initiatives were started during the first half of the 90s of last century and have been completed in the past years of this decade.
