At the same time it is one of the means to increase the welfare of the nations, to strengthen the peace, for universal respect of human rights, regardless of race, sex, language or religion.   • Summary/Abstract:The global economic crisis of 1929 - 1933 affects severely the banking system in Bulgaria. Consisting of many small private and popular banks with limited capital, it proved unable to meet the destructive effects of the decline in production and trade. The vast majority of Bulgarian banks are forced to bankrupt or shrink their activity to the minimum. The sharp limitation of lending to the Bulgarian economy and the loss of confidence among depositors necessitate urgent changes in the banking sector. In October 1934, through the merger of 12 Bulgarian and provincial banks Bulgarian Credit Bank is launched. BNB participates in the formation of the share capital and in the governing bodies of the Bank, wich defines the semi-state status of the new banking institution. Only for a year of its existence, BCB has established itself as one of the largest and stable Bulgarian banks and contributes to the strengthening of the banking system in Bulgaria in the years following the Great Depression.

  • Summary/Abstract:The legal status of the voynuk bashtina as a base of the agriculture activity of the voynuk households from the Central Balkans during the first two centuries of the Ottoman rule is made clear in the article on the basis of the Ottoman legislation from XVI century. New information about the structure and size of the agricultural parcels in the voynuk bashtinas is presented according to the data from some published and unpublished Ottoman registers. The regional characteristics of the voynuk landowning can be clearly seen, mostly in North West Thrace, Sofia and Kyustendil regions.

  • Summary/Abstract:In this paper two reports of exposure of commercial and industrial and agricultural products and crafts in the town of Bursa in 1909 are presented - report of H. Karastoyanov and Iv. Zlatarov to Sofia Chamber of Commerce of the event and reports of journalist P. Daskalov titled "A glimpse of Anatolia - notes and impressions". Their combination builds in front of the reader an overall picture of both - the exhibition and trade organizations and the people, history, culture, faced by the Bulgari-ans on the way and in Bursa. There is a simultaneous closeness and distance between the two peoples – which until recently had been within the same empire. The interconnection of economic and trade relations with politics is clear.

  • Summary/Abstract:Starting from a quite modest position of a small port town at circa 1800, Burgas made a significant and fast rise in importance during the course of the 19th c. For a few decades the town managed to out-255weigh economically the older and far richer in urban traditions centres like Nessebar, Anchialo (today Pomorie) and Sozopol. Was this rise of Burgas due to the enterprising spirit of the citizens or the sensible use of the natural resources? May we assume otherwise that this prosperity was a result of the Ottoman reforming policy, of the coming modernity, or of the discovery of the local market by the West Europeans? Apparently more than one answer is possible here. The paper inquires about the reasons of Burgas’ economical progress, focussing on the period of the biggest leap in growth from 1830 to 1878. The text is an attempt to synthesise some of the most important aspects of the problem without being a comprehensive treatise of the topic in concern.

  • Summary/Abstract:The present article is devoted to the economic activity practiced by the men of the Chalakov family that in the second and the third quarter of XIX century established themselves as ones of the large-scale buyers of tithe levied on sheep in the European provinces of the Ottoman Empire. The many years of experience of the Chalakov family in the buyout system, that took place via various economic practices, is an interesting example of Bulgarians’ integration in the Ottoman economy,270as well as of the process of formation of wealthy Bulgarian economic elite during the Bulgarian National Revival.

  • Summary/Abstract:One of the most powerful Bulgarian merchant houses during the Revival period (18th – 19th centuries) was “Pulievi-Georgievi”. Two of the partners – Hristo and Nikola Pulievi continued the business ventures of their father – Teodor Puliev in Galatz and Braila. Pulievi’s nephews (Evlogi and Hristo Georgiev) were also involved in the activities of the firm (Evlogi in 1839) and Hristo (from 1841 onwards). Evlogi’s younger brother Hristo began his entrepreneurial career settling down pеrmanently in the town of Bucharest and Evlogi moved to Galatz. In their turn, Pulievi settled down in Karlovo (after 1841) and continued to deliver products to their relatives. From this point of view “Pulievi-Georgievi” firm is a representative example for family-based company.289The main aim of this paper is to reveal Pulievi’s trade activities. I have chosen that period because in 1839 was established the firm “Pulie-vi-Georgievi”. On the other hand, in 1868 Nikola T. Pulievi passed away.On the basis of the preserved letters, one can say that from 1839 to 1841 Hristo T. Puliev was buying and exporting mainly agricultural products, hides, cloths, aba and so forth in Galatz where his brother Nikola resided according to the merchant contract signed on 1 January 1839. Hristo’s activities were restricted to Karlovo, Filibe (Plovdiv) and Pazardzhik. After 1841, Hristo and Nikola T. Pulievi managed to expand their activities across Ottoman Bulgaria. Around 33 settlements are registered in Pulievi’s letter books and merchant ledgers. After Hristo’s death Nikola continued the joint business ventures with the assistance of Stefan P. Vasilev. They continued to deal with agricultural and craft products after the Crimean War. During that period, their activities spread in 22 settlements. It is obvious that Hristo and Nikola Pulievi restricted their business ventures mainly to the Bulgarian lands in contrast to the business activities (and mercantile networks) of other entrepreneurs during the Bulgarian Revival (XVIIIth –XIXth century).In conclusion I would like to point out that Pulievi’s mercantile network is representative one for the establishment of long-lasting “circle of friends” which was the basis for Pulievi’s successful business activities.

  • Summary/Abstract:The conflict of interests is a current issue, which is the subject of many discussions at international and national level. The concept found its legal definition in the Law on Prevention and Detection of Conflict of Interests, by which the public sector was largely protected. Thus the private sector remained outside the scope of the law. In practice, however, the situation of "conflict of interests" is found in the private318sector too, where there are different individual approaches for its limitation.

  • Summary/Abstract:A new approach to the development of the cultural sector, which includes both quantitative and qualitative assessment of existing resources, activities and policies, is established in the last decade in Bulgaria. The relationships and influences with other sectors such as industry, tourism, education, communication and informational technologies are accounted. This approach is known as mapping of the cultural sector or of its elements, such as cultural and creative industries. This study is the first attempt to map culture in Blagoevgrad municipality with a focus on outlining the main elements of the infrastructure of the cultural sector - institutions, festivals, cultural events. The characteristics of the material base, the intellectual potential and the financial provision o the cultural sector in the municipality of Blagoevgrad will be outlined in general terms. The expectation is that this research will be developed on the next stage in mapping of also the cultural and creative industries in the municipality and to become a good basis for developing future plans and strategies at local and regional level.

  • Summary/Abstract:The leading initiatives of Strategy "Europe 2020", titled "European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion" and "Innovation Union" define innovations in social policy as an important instrument for overcoming the challenges of re-development of the socio-economic sphere.One of the main areas of action of "European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion" is related to the promotion of social innova-tions, based on the evidence, before their mass application.The launch of an european pilot initiative for social innovation, which will provide expert knowledge to those working in the field of social policy and will propose that social innovations be a main theme in future programs of the European Social Fund is a key element of the "Innovation Union".349The framework for the management and monitoring of economic and social reforms in the EU, aimed at achieving the goals of "Europe 2020" is provided by the European Semester.Social innovation financing is provided by EU funds, in particular the European Social Fund. And to promote the experimentation of social policy, the Commission provides funding through the Program for Employment and Socialcial Innovation (EaSI) and in particular by the Progress axis.EC develops methodological guidelines for testing innovations in social policy, which are intended for politicians and all social service providers, and also are essential for researchers, who must first assess the social results of the possible conduct of a certain policy.
