Theoretical Approaches of the Definite Article Postposition in Balkan-Romance Languages

Summary/Abstract: Enclitic use of the definite article is a specific feature indistinguishing grammatical systems of Balkan-Romancelanguages from Western Romance languages. The origin of thedefinite article in postposition, its evolution as well as theinternal mechanism of the language have aroused the interest ofmany linguists. Thus, the definite article postposition may bemotivated by the influence of languages, belonging to anotherlinguistic group, on Balkan languages, the influence of Geto-Dacian substratum or Latin stratum, as well as differentdevelopment ways of lingual systems. Another factor, equallyimportant, would be the influence of syntactic rules of ancientSlavic, which we intend to analyze and elucidate in this article.
