Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with some aspects of foreign language teaching, with a special emphasis on the so-called ESP (English for Specific Purposes). Our aim is to cover some aspects of teaching English for professional purposes. After a short historical overview of language teaching methods and theories, we focus on some of the linguistic peculiarities of English for medicine, English for advertising, English for the media, English for medicine, etc. Finally, we intend to approach the use of role-plays and simulation in the teaching of English for different professions.
